Next Up, Austria!

As I explained earlier, we’ll be visiting three countries (plus London) during our European Adventure this summer and Austria is country #2!

We’ll get up and get packed up on our last morning in Munich and make our way to the Berchtesgaden after picking up our rental car blocks from the hotel.  We hope to arrive into Berchtesgaden around 11am, so we hope to check into the hotel early and then head off to meet the rest of our group in Salzburg. If we can’t check in, we’ll just leave our baggage and head on out.  We plan to spend the afternoon visiting a couple of settings in the Sound of Music!

We’ll start at Hellbrun Palace (“I am sixteen going on seventeen…”) and then head onto the Mirabell Gardens.

After a busy day, we’ll finish off the day with dinner at Gasthaus Zwettlers Stiftskeller and then try to get to bed early for a busy day tomorrow!

The next day we’re venturing outside the city to see a little more of Austria!  We’ll meet the rest of our group in Berchtesgaden to check the town out a little.  It sounds like a beautiful area of Germany.  While there, we also hope to get a peek at the Eagle’s Nest – a fixture in the Nazi regime.

Then, we’re off to Hallstatt, Austria!  I have read some wonderful things about this quaint little town in the Alps.  China, has even replicated it’s beauty in a man-made town in China (Google it – so weird!?).

So according to Trip Advisor, the most popular attraction in Salzburg is the Old Town area of the city.  So we’ll spend the next morning perusing the area and we’ll also visit Mozart’s birthplace.  Then we’ll hop into the car for our trip to Innsbruck, Austria!

Once we arrive, we’ll check into the Hilton and spend the evening in the Altstadt area to do some shopping and have dinner.

Our last day in Austria, we’ll spend the morning in Innsbruck before  we depart on our four and a half hour direct train ride from Innsbruck to Venice at 1:30pm. We’ll check out of the Hilton in the morning and take a ride up the funicular before making our way to the train station to begin our Italian adventure!

We’re all looking forward to all of our adventures along the way!
