Citi Executive AA Credit Card – 100,000 Mile Sign Up Bonus

My husband and I are constantly searching for new credit cards to sign up for. Over the years, we’ve had most of the best cards out there and some multiple times. When determining what cards we should put into the queue for our next round of applications, I first take a look at our upcoming travel plans and choose cards that help us get free airfare and free hotel nights.

Given that our upcoming travel plans are pretty well covered with the miles and points that we currently have, I started to look around at what great offers are out there that are hard to pass up, even if we don’t have an immediate use for the miles or points.

The one that stands out the most to me is the Citi Executive AAdvantage World Elite Mastercard. The sign up bonus for this card is 100,000 miles! But there are a few strings that make this one a little difficult for me to pull the trigger on. One, the annual fee is $450. $200 of that is offset by a statement credit towards any purchase on the card so that effectively makes the annual fee $250.

The second obstacle to this application for us is the $10,000 minimum spending requirement in the first 3 months after opening the card. We simply don’t have really high expenses to cover with a credit card so we’d have to pursue other options to meet this requirement. Luckily, we have a Simon Malls venue down the road that would make meeting that spending requirement a little easier. But getting to $10,000 would be a bit of work.

But the benefits with this card are pretty great. Other than the 100,000 American Airlines miles, you get a free Admirals Club membership, priority boarding, first checked bag free, and 10,000 Elite Qualifying Miles (EQMs) if you spend $40,000 on the card in a year. The best benefit here by far is the 100,000 miles, but the other benefits aren’t bad!

So, while we haven’t made the final decision, this card may make it into my next application round.

As always, feel free to ask any questions that you may have. I don’t have this card (yet), but I’ll do my best to help!
