While adventuring in Costa Rica last week, news broke that Chase was temporarily increasing the sign up bonuses of their Ink business cards (Bold and Plus) from 50,000 Ultimate Rewards to 60,000 Ultimate Rewards upon spending $5,000 within the first three months. Additionally, they also have temporarily increased the Ink Cash card bonus from 20,000 to 30,000 Ultimate Rewards.
This was an initial bummer for me as both my husband and I applied for the Ink Plus card in the last couple of months and we missed out on the bigger bonus. But it occurred to me that Chase is excellent at matching bonuses for individuals who recently applied for the same card with lesser rewards.
So, earlier this week I sent a Secure Message to Chase from each of our accounts requesting that they match the increased bonus given that we applied recently. The text of my message was:
I recently applied for the Chase Ink card when the bonus was 50,000 Ultimate Rewards upon spending $5,000 in the first 3 months. I now see that the bonus is 60,000 Ultimate Rewards. I would have waited a few weeks to apply if I had known that this bonus was available so I’m wondering if I might get that bonus matched to me when I meet the $5,000 spending requirement. Thanks for your assistance with this request!
And the response from Chase was:

So, please use this post as a reminder that should any credit card bonus increase relatively soon after you apply, don’t hesitate to contact the bank and ask for the difference. Chase is excellent at doing this and while I don’t have any experience with Citibank or Barclays, it doesn’t hurt to ask!
** I do not receive any commission from Chase should you decide to apply for one of these cards.
